I've tested this a few times. When the Mekalchemist plays a potion by using "Odds and Ends", it is not copied.

Have you read his ability?
After your cards are played, each potion is duplicated.
When a fight starts:
1 - character abilities are checked
2 - permanent abilities are checked
3 - your cards are activated.
He checks the potions you play on step 1.
Odds and Ends only "brings and plays" a potion on step 3.
If it worked the way you are expecting it to, he'd keep duplicating Potions forever.
Because everytime a potion was played, it would be duplicated.

Yup it will only duplicate potions which you played, not the ones played by the card you played.
