mental syphon and theft don't discard any card
in the dark tower when i used them againts the golem with -10 magic damage,,,those cards don't seems to work

From i realise maybe it is
the second card opponent play ignored and activated after the fight
isn't it?

I played Mental Syphon as my FIRST and ONLY card with Abyssien or Alyce (not sure) and nothing happened.

The effect is to ignore the "last" card you play. If you play 2 cards, it will ignore the second. If you play only one, that one will be ignored.
