any suggestions on what to upgrade the zil starter with?
just started out so i don't have many crystal yet.

buy lots of packs 
I dont think you will get any more cards otherwise. Maybe one common a week due to the daily quest?
But to your question maybe a pack zil deck? I made mine for something like 70-80k crystals

Pretty much. Unless you play on your computer all day and grind out crystals at 40/game
As far as I know as a free player you can buy the 3 starter decks for crystals then everything else is $$

Get a friend so that he lets you win loads of consecutive games against him, so you get loads of different kinds of trophies, all of wich give a big amount of crystals.
For Zil you can grab Fenrath, BloodSword and Faceless for a decent cheap starter team.

p.s. get best cards from zil and default merc deck together and u will pwn all till lvl 8~
and then decide what to do next
