Pets

Lets be honest here, the concept of pets is quite lacking. Basically they're weapons that you can only have one of that add a little sprite to your character. What's the fun in including cards that will discard your other cards?

Basically I suggest one of two things

First, Pets are creatures. Lets allow them to evolve. Give them multiple evolutions, have fun with it.

Or

Allow some pets to change somehow in battle. For instance magic pets could change if you played a spell of a certain type. [card]magicmuncher[/card] for instance, could get an additional +1 to spell damage against characters who are not in combat if you play an air spell. Or you could figure out a system to combine pets, though I admit that would be hard and require more sprites and work than is desirable.

Finally, (This can be used in any case) pets belong to people. I would suggest specific effects that help a single character or caste (like Pythia).

That's all!

Re : Pets

Nice idea.

I think that using the same pet card on a character with that pet already equipped could evolve the pet.

Example: [card]Demonic Cloud[/card] used on a character already equipped with a DC could evolve the creature to something else providing extra stats and maybe effects. It could become a little inferno.
