Surprise attack bug?

I discovered this issue about [card]Surprise attack[/card] while fighting Ourenos' reflection. I was using Dark Kaes w/ 11 defense while Ourenos has 8/10 attack and used Surprise attack. I thought D.Kaes won't take any damage because his def is higher than Ourenos attack but Kaes received 1 damage. I thought Surprise attack will only add the +2 damage if the opponent inflicted/dealt a damage. But in this case the damage is added to the character himself w/c makes Ourenos 10/12.

So is this a bug or working as intended?

Working as intended.
Adding damage is not supplemental damage, it just adds 2 to the damage you do.
If it is -1, you add +2 and you are at +1.
