why are the prices fixed in the marketplace
Sorry - fairly new here. Why are the prices fixed in the market. It seems reasonable to let prices rise and fall with the supply/demand?
Do they raise the price if cards don't move because the price is too low?

The prices on the market are not fixed.
They evolve with supply/demand.
But hey are limited to avoid market manipulation.
The market is a small one : small number of of cards of each kind.
The first market available on this game (2 years ago) was totally free and there was a lot of manipulation to make artificially raise the prices.
The current is not perfect, but it seems not too bad for the majority of players.
