I have learned that when one uses Mentalism, spells that equip themselves to characters will still be in the list of options to take from the discard pile if they are the types that Mentalism allows you to take. So far I know that the card Beyond Vision will be there since it was an option for me to take. I had played two copies, one still equipped to a character and one sent to the discard pile.
I tried to take one copy not knowing which was which and it said there was a card error but apparently did take it. I probably clicked the still-equipped one but it took the other from the discard pile. I figure this might happen with ice barrier or any other permanent spells but I do not have any to test with.

Do you mean that you can choose a spell currently attached to a living character with mentalism ?
The card speaks only from the discard pile, not the attached one.

Both copies of Beyond Vision were listed to choose from so yes I think so. I don't know if it would have let me take a copy if one wasn't in the discard pile, but one copy was and it worked.

You should take some screen shot.
I don't understand if the cards in play were selectable or not.

If I ever get the chance I shall. But, picture the screen that shows up when Mentalism is used. It had Smoked Arrow once, and Beyond Vision in two places. I chose on Beyond Vision and it came up with that error, and yet it activated and then after I checked, the card was no longer in the discard pile. The only spells were Smoked Arrow and the Mentalism I had just played.
Update: I was unable to redo the results when I discarded a Beyond Vision from my hand and had one equipped, but I think it could happen if a character dies while equipped with it. It's a little hard to try to force such results to happen but I can stay on the look for chances.
