I keep getting them as drops but I have no idea how to use them or what they are for...

Unfortunately, due to a lack of staff allocated for Eredan GT, the non-French versions of the game are mostly without the translation for the items/quests/skills/...
For a better use of the game, you should use the French version as it is complete.
