From what I hear, apparently you can chain AoE Theurgies

Agreed. I don't think you should be able to chain anything that has the sub-type AoE, regardless of whether it's a spell or theurgy. If you can chain it, why bother saying it's AoE?

AoE is limited to spells.
Therugies should not have AoE written on cards.
