Card of the Week : Turned to the Shadow Side

This week, the card we would like to hear your feedback on will be [card]Turned to the Shadow Side[/card].

The idea is to get a quick idea on what works and what doesn't for further improvement.

What are its strengths/weaknesses? When do you play this card? Does it play well with another card? If so, which one? In what type of deck can it be integrated?

The aim is to express your opinion but also listen to others...

This topic will be open for a week. We expect you to be civil and respectful, provide constructive feedback, and of course trolls or flames will be immediately dealt with.

Please, use this form to help us with the feedbacks :

Re : Card of the Week : Turned to the Shadow Side

Note : 7
Strengths : Nice for healing and defense, lasts 3 turns big_smile

Weaknesses : I don't know if adding +2 attack would help very much on mages, but it's nice. Can also be cleansed by Clumsyness or similar cards.

Deck : Zil mages wink Or maybe discard deck playing with Abyssien

Opinion and personnal analysis : I like to use it since it chains another spell on a mage. Plus give me some survivability.

Next card you wish to study (just name one card)** : [card]Nehant's Splinter[/card]!!! Please????

Re : Card of the Week : Turned to the Shadow Side

Note : 6

Strengths : Great defense specially combined with Exordium.

Weaknesses : I think the only weakness is that it can be removed, by like Sunburn. But it's good IMO.

Deck : Discards with Abyssien. I hate discards, but it works really good with them.

Opinion and personnal analysis : This + Exordium + Ice Barrier = pwn.

Next card you wish to study: I agree with the guy above. I think would be nice to see people's opinions about Nehantic Splinter, it really needs some support. Otherwise I'd say Obesity. But I will keep the Splinter.

Re : Card of the Week : Turned to the Shadow Side

The Zil Shadow Mage deck is very intriguing, and this card seems to be a cornerstone for the deck.  The fact it changes the appearance of the 2 Zil shadow mages is great.  The wording does seem a little off to me though.  Does it last for a duration of multiple turns for only the 2 named shadow mages, or does it last for that duration for anyone who casts it, but the bonus for the 2 shadow mages is cumulative every turn?

I am avidly awaiting for the cost of this card to drop dramatically...so I can afford them lol....

Can I change my vote? Now I note this as an 8.

Really, I saw a guy using this correctly, instead of spamming every card he had on his hands, and it was amazing.

This card is pretty strong and useful, for both defense AND attack. His character got real strong.

It only last 3 turns for the said mages [card]Abyssien the devourer[/card] and [card]Kuraying[/card] other than that it only works like ordinary one turn buff.

...and yes the bonus is cumulative for the said mages, first turn will be 5 spirit, second 7 spirit and third 9 spirit <=Insane

For additional info, the two mages is a world apart. Most of the times, [card]Kuraying[/card] always cast [card]..Than the sword[/card] after a shadow spell because of his effect and [card]Abyssien the devourer[/card] always play [card]Never lonely[/card] or [card]Kiss of death[/card] after shadow spell, usually cloning that contains [card]Never lonely[/card] or [card]Kiss of death[/card] itself. Both tactic have great potential for OHKO wink

But this doesn't mean those mages can't switch roles for a nasty, nasty surprise..

P.S. Just bought Abyssien the devourer for 17k as I post this, see you in shadow land MoonFever big_smile

Re : Card of the Week : Turned to the Shadow Side

Note: 9

Strengths: Incredibly powerfull efect, lasts many turns, natural chain as a spell

Weaknessess: Decks builded around this card often fail terribly if it gets removed.

Decks: Shadow mage zils

Opinions: I don't like the design on this card, its one of those "pack a hard counter or get raped" kind of card, they are not good for the game.

Next card: Solaris

You don't see too many decks based on this card...but it definitely is a very nice strategy...Zil Mages can be defensive deckers...fierce attackers...or even nuke down the competition..however because of this balance they find themselves weak...rather than being intense in one area they are decent in all areas. I personally do not like playing decks based around one card so you most likely wont see me playing this in a tournament any time soon.

True, cards like this, "Rape you enemy with it or lose badly" are not good, not cool, and annoys the opponent.

Someone use and you think: "OMG, I must stop it now or I lose because of ONE card!! I must do something!", then on next turn you draw a Clumsyness, then you think: "Yeah, I win!".

Re : Card of the Week : Turned to the Shadow Side

Note : 9
Strengths : Accumulative effect withh Abyssien and Kuraying. When played it's  a countdown to doom :3 how ever, it's not impossible to defeat it
Weaknesses : Well, it can be removed and it lasts 3 combats so it's only cuestion of hanging on until it is discarted tongue
Deck : The Zil Shadow Mages

My Opinion: Its a really good ccard, even more when you got to face it! I mean it requires a  good strategy to overcome it.

And here some pics of how to defeat it :3

Re : Card of the Week : Turned to the Shadow Side

Note: 9

Strengths: Cumulative effect, and generates the largest all-stat boost available via  a single card. And, the characters it was "Intended" for, have a free chain off of it.

Weaknesses: It's removable. One copy per character. It's a headstone for Improper decks, meaning it is a normal concept to build around this card.

Deck: Hydralisk (Fog Hydra, Kuraying, Abyssien the devourer....I'm the FHF, what do you expect?)

Opinion: It's a powerful card that has good potential and very few weaknesses.

Re : Card of the Week : Turned to the Shadow Side

Note : 8

Strengths : cumulative effeect

Weaknesses : can be removed really only works for 2 characters

Deck : zil mages

Opinion and personnal analysis : looks amazing I'll have to try a zil mage deck sometime, too bad they only have 2 single class mages though.

Next card you wish to study no preferance

Re : Card of the Week : Turned to the Shadow Side

I should actually note that while overall I agree with the above, the most important thing about the card is that it is central to an actual Shadow-combat based Zil-Mage strategy and has a lot of potential to be a differentation from, not an addition to, discard decks. I have nothing against discard decks except when people use them in the Level Rooms during card-play events (because this is a dick move that inevitably denies other players event credit). In Elo, tournaments, and outside of play-based events (win based events without play restrictions, play with certain character lineup events, etc.) in general either strategy is fun.

The power of the card is its multiturn, cumulative effect. The balance of the card is that it CAN be removed, and is not immune to stat resets ('stat = X' cards, stat / 'X cards'). Overall I think this is one of the best designed cards, especially when you consider the graphical 'unleash the beast' aspect of it.
