Pirate Legend + Dream like encounter

ok, first turn with cpt. killicrew all my pirates have counters on them.

On first turn I plaid [card]Dreamlike Encounter[/card] and chained [card]Pirate Legend[/card]. Both cards should let me draw three cards each, so that would make 11 cards in hand for turn two (5+3+3). However the biggest hand I can get is 8. Is it supposed to work this way? or am I supposed to be getting three cards from both of them?

oh and my characters are:
[card]Armada[/card]
[card]Bragan[/card]
[card]Captain Al Killicrew[/card]

yes, I am very greedy .

You see, most of my deck is just filler, the goal of this deck is to blow everything up with [card]Flames of the Phoenix[/card](lvl2).  Because its a unique card I'd like to have some really good draw power, I just wanted to know if it should be possible to draw 6 extra cards on turn 2 from this, the most extra cards I am able to draw is 3, pirate legend doesn't give me any extra cards when its chained after dreamlike encounter.
