Last Hope card not working

Hi all,

I 'experimented' with Last Hope. I played it on Anazra against opponent's Abyssien. At the end of the fight, Anazra is still alive so the card should activate. However, Anazra did not die and Abyssien do not receive 8 direct damage.

That makes me wonder what is the criteria to activate this card?

to use the card , the character that uses the cards must be the only one alive on the side the card is used
