since this says magic fire damage doesnt this mean it should be reduced by spirit?

It is. It takes all of the "powder tokens" in play and averages them, then inflicts the average to each character who had tokens.
So if there is a total of say 25 tokens, and there are 5 characters left, each character should get hit for 5 damage before reduction. Mind you level 4 Captain Al Killcrew and 3 supplyings gives 12 tokens to each character, so at max token count it can be 60-72 tokens, thats a possible 10/11 damage before spirit reduction.

Sorry anihilate but that's incorrect. The way flames works is how ever many powder tokens is on each character they get dealt that much damage minus there spirit. so 3 powder token - 2 spirit = 1 damage. if you don't believe me try potato peeling and flames. the character that doesn't have tokens won't get damaged

I agree It work like he bushidotwo said everyone with powder tokens takes damage X were X = the number of tokens on then - there spirit, think of it like running a mage with a spell AOE spell but damage is number of powder tokens on every char.

well i posted this because i was fighting a pirate deck and i run mages, didnt deduct spirit from the damage. no i dont have screen shots, i dont know how to do them sadly
