Non-combat XP
Is there a way to have cards earn XP outside of actual combat? Like.. is there "training" or some such mechanic that allows smaller XP gains if I'm going to be away for a while and can't play on a daily basis?

No.
Except the Destiny cards (bonus cards in booster with XP on it you can use on another card to raise XP of the card)
