mages..

OK...I dont get it..How do i get my spirit score up high enough to do damage with lighting bolts and such?? if i use  a +spirit chain card..i cant use LB or any of the other big spell cards..so my mages are stuck with 5 or so damage..while Zil and others are hitting me with 12+ dmg..what am i missing??
