a five card side deck. you would be allowed to change just before the start of the game, all characters would be shown then you will be asked if you would like to use your side deck to exchange up to 5 cards. once both players are done the game would start. There would also be a timer of,lets say for now 2min to decide what cards to exchange. This would give that key opportunity to prepare for some of the more broken strategy's.

I like this idea mainly b/c a lot of times I have 3-5 useless cards in my deck for just these certain combos. a deck of only 20 cards. yes I can discard them but that takes just that many more cards from my already fast shrinking deck.

Okay my first thoughts would be this is a good idea. If tourny's were revamped it would seem good for tourny's if the games were best of of 3 or etc.

After thinking about it, this is not a good idea. Too many decks have 1-2 cards that can completely counter them. Anathematize and freeze would be in almost everyones side deck making a handful of decks useless.

People can do this already but at a cost, adding these cards to a normal deck may be useless against the vast majority of decks but a easy win against a foam giant or items have a soul deck.

but thats the beauty of it, it keeps people from relying on the same old tired strategy's. I'd like to be able to side in cards like "a close shave" umm "crackaling crown" "fierce lion" and the few that work in most cases like the ones you mentioned.

Well your side deck would already have to be set up. just making sure this was clear.

I'm basically bumping this, I've been testing this idea a bit my own way by having rematches and don't see any reason not to add this as part of the game.

Maybe you're not getting as many responses because the side deck feature will only be worthwhile in a tournament format that does best 2 out of 3 matches. The last tournament in December of last year did not have that format, so your whole collection was basically your side deck.

Dunno, some players are already unbearable slow without a side deck, this would make things even worse. Apart from that you can easily cycle through your deck if you chose to include some metagame cards in favor of deck stability. Running out of cards shouldn't be too much of a problem since most decks either go for a quick turn 4 kill and add some generic counters like obesity or go the slow route and include ANS.

well most of the time just by seeing your opponents 3 character cards you can usually tell what needs to be switched out, no need for a 2 out of 3.

and whats about 45sec to make a quick change. most the time you won't really even need it.

Well, if a player is afk (and it happens frequently) you would have to wait more 45 seconds... It makes a difference, makes the game boring.
And that would ruin the surprise element. It has his advantages/disadvantages, but I think it's more interesting the way it is.

Maybe for tournments like it was said before.
