First: Here's a big hand and a 'solid work!' to the guys at Feerik.
Second: Here's why, with a mixture of market experience and a healthy dosing of sarcasm.
Personally, even though I don't plan on buying them unless/until I get a windfall, the price is reasonable...far more than I've seen from other TCGs. Or miniatures games. Usually, the pre-stupide formula goes like this [for those unfamiliar]:
-Price: ~2.5x single booster MSRP
-Cards: 2 rares, 10 uncommons, flood of commons. basic resource cards supplied if applicable [treat these as maybe worth 1/10th of a common...until you have more than enough of every type. then they're toilet paper]
So, for the cost of two and a half boosters, I can get two rares, the most of which I've seen one is a good rare and the other mediocre at best, the same amount of uncommons as 2.5 boosters with a vast smattering of usefulness, and staple commons.
Compare to these:
-Price: ~2.5x single premium booster
-Cards: 4 rares, 7 uncommons, filler commons. Most have 2 rares being characters [resource cards not applicable to this game]
So, for the cost of two and a half boosters, I get FOUR rares, most on the scale of good - great [as opposed to 'this is a rare?' - 'crap' at one end and 'legendary/expensive - frickin' amazing' at the other] and plenty of useful (and at least moderately salable) uncommons. Hold the boat, Batman! This puts them at least on par with the best preconstructed decks I've seen in other games, even when you consider the secondary market. You're not getting Ergue, but there's not a Kroub in sight.
Even if NONE of these cards were trade-able, anyone trying to build a collection and looking for guaranteed building blocks of good decks can make a one stop shop and save them-self a few feez in the process. Oh, what's that? You can't get Ishaia, A Fresh Start, or one of the amazing legendaries? That's the price of preconstructed guarantees, and guess what? If you're like a lot of players, the idea of getting better rares for your money than a roulette day that ends with 2x Blasphemy, Magic Hat, and Escaping Death is a great one. Not to mention that the idea of saving time raising the crystals BEFORE you have any Elo ready decks (or playing the one you managed to build and are sick of playing). I mean, heaven forbid a company markets a product a significant portion of their potential customers might want.
So, please, by all means complain about how a company wants to sell a comparatively superior product to all the other games you can play (usually requiring cash to play at all, and a lot more to fill out your power rares) which might entice free players to spend a bit of their birthday money on a game they enjoy instead another CD from Walmart or a night at Applebees [I'm not sure what the closest European equivalents are, but I'm pretty sure the 'a few tunes for your iPod or a nice dinner' analogy holds]. Let us know it's a joke that Feerik adopts a type of packaging for their product that is ubiquitous to the gaming industry (industries? whatever...) that actually makes sense, and how no, you STILL can't just pay Feez to get the power rares on a favorable basis for you. I'll spend my complaining time on things actually worth complaining about.
Cheers!

Came to check after getting all but #4 on my own. All clues to seem be to play "with OR against", since I got most of them by doing the opposite of most advice here. Keeping "with OR against" in mind, the layout I've found so far seems to be:
1 - Noz deck. May or may not be wearing blue (seriously, try playing Noz who AREN'T wearing blue. that's what I thought.)
2 - Marlok (the repentant, in my case)
3 - Unsure, seems to be Zil or x3 Marauder
4- ??? Have played against multiple Nehantist decks during event, but none with both Hate AND Iron Mask. Don't have Iron Mask myself [yet]. Evidence points to needing both in the same match. Wonder if one deck with Hate facing a different deck with Iron Mask would satisfy? Idle speculation, but I guess worth a shot. [edit2]First game using my available Nehantists, had Hate on my side and Iron Mask withOUT Hate on the other. did not get troph =/ looks like they both have to be on the same side[/edit2]
5 - Courtesans. for the record, got mine WITHOUT using Ishaia after already playing a few games with her during the event. Actually think I got this and 7 together, making it strange. Perhaps is just "Non-Ishaia courtesans"?
6 - Play with [how i got mine] (or against [how everyone else seems to have gotten theirs]) Ishaia.
7 - Seems to be level 3 Angelica. Faced and used many level 1s & 2s to no avail, won with a level 3 and got trophy. If it matters, I did use Assassination + dagger to get a kill with her, even though she died herself.
8 - Seems to be failing to get any other trophy for the event during that match.
[edit][card]Desolation of the Heart[/card] shows Iron Mask using a pool to show Angelica the ball from... [card]The Ball[/card]...Courtier trophy card. A plot set in motion by the Nehantists...maybe Angelica has it bad for Marlok and removed Ishaia from her path at Mask's darker urgings?
Overall
I agree that the pirates are one of the most fun but unfortunately least competitive guilds at the moment. I've always been a steam-punk fan, so the steam-tech and gunpowder on the high seas...the way the art is done it's just plain fun. The addition of [card]Catch![/card] was a really important one in terms of manipulating powder, which until that point was either stuck on you until pistol-bladed, [card]Armada[/card]-ed, or phoenix-ed (which isn't really healthy for you). The only other ways to currently avoid this setback were [card]Potato Peeling Duty[/card] or [card]Fiery Sword[/card], and then having [card]Fierce Lion[/card] on [card]Nut[/card] with the Mechanist release.
Powder
To contribute to the pirate theme, it might be good to add some kind of equipment (say, "Volatile Hand Cannon") which reacts to fire damage if the user has powder. The user still takes the fire damage unless it comes from consuming powder [basically, Flames of the Phoenix], but the flame sets off the powder in the cannon doing 1 fire damage per powder token to the foe currently in battle and 1/4th to 1/2 damage to the pirate holding the cannon. You get the idea. More powder manipulation = more yarrrrr, matey without relying on mechanics other guilds can access.
Marauders
The other shortcoming of the Pirate deck in competition is that the guild only has two Mages and only recently got a true Marauder stable. Although [card]Narwhal[/card] and Pirate Marauder actions can make them very unpredictable, they rely on outside attack buffs to have any chance of overcoming high-defense / Armor opponents. The time it takes to set up three [card]Jolly Roger[/card]s and utilize your [card]Extortion[/card]s to keep the opponent in check is a big hit to deck space and doesn't seem very 'in-you-face' Marauder-style.
Mages
Back to Mages, I haven't really seen anything go here. The Lightning theme is very interesting (and certainly grounds us from the shock of thunder-Bragan) but has no match for Noz Dingard's lightning AoE just yet. Dance is a decent single-target hitter and they can use Static and Chains, but they need something to match the Noz's defense/spirit stacking and level 3 Lightning Bolts (Lightning Rod helps a bit).
Castes
And of course, each of the other guilds has a full-fledged caste-deck at this point, and many dual-caste options. Even Eclipse, World Tree, and Compendium can field three members. I'm not sure what all could beef up the caste, but there's a lot of open pathways there. And, of course, there are plenty of options for another caste or castes. Pirates could take on affiliations by Captain [Kilcrew, Mylad, Hook(?)], loyalty [Loyalists, Mutineers], or secret society [White Isle Vagabonds?].
In the level room with a zil female deck looking for a Desert Nomad male! Willing to swap games by making a deck with w/e gender of w/e faction you need. Empire's Border and all that.
Nemo_Utopia
I agree, not enough golems! That said, my thinking is a bit different. More specifically:
1 - Where is Delko's golem?! I think this shouldn't be character, but something vaguely like:
Draconian Helper
Class: Craftsman
Item Pet
Becomes your character's pet.
One copy of this card per character only.
+1 Max Health +1 Defense.
If "Draconian Helper" is played by Delko, -4 to damage taken the next time this character is in a fight. This effect can only occur once per character per Draconian Helper.
Chain.
This would let you play Draconian Helper again by Delko on the same character to tinker and refresh its energy, but limit the effect to once per character.
2 - I really like the idea of a Desert Nomad golem. I think it could benefit from not gaining the +1 Defense to other Nomads bonus until its first evolution (Level 2), and in final form having "If affected by a damaging spell or a magical attack, Sandrock gains +X Spirit, where X is equal to Sandrock's printed Defense for the purpose of that spell or attack."
3 - Kotoba don't need to be left out!
Clay
Class: Warrior
Species: Golem
Guild: Kotoba
Spirit: 0
Attack: 5/8
Defense: 1
Health 14
Chain if playing Kotoba item.
Turns 2 and 8: +1 Attack
@Level 2
+1 Defense
Turn bonus becomes 2, 4, and 8
@Level 3
+1 Attack
Gains text: "Clay" is treated as both "Ramen" and "Masamune" when playing items.
Brent Walker, aka Nemo Utopia, and I've been doing the CCG thing since Magic (seems to be a common theme). As a guy who mainly played Blue and is a Mage is just about every fantasy game I've been suckered into, it's no surprise the Noz immediately caught my eye. I've enjoyed playing each faction, and like others really enjoy the leveling/merging aspect here. It adds a different dimension and melds with the aesthetic of Eredan very well! US English speaker [I'm working on the multi-lingual thing...slowly...with limited success ]. Go forth and fight well!
