A shot at the demon hunter caste

Hey there everyone! When I noticed the new demon hunter cards, I got very interested. They seemed fun to play, so I figured I'd try my hand at building a deck to use them.

Characters:
[card]Yu Ling[/card]
[card]Okooni[/card]
[card]Zatochi Kage[/card]

Actions (7):
[card]Integrity[/card] x3
[card]Origami[/card] x2
[card]Storm[/card]
[card]To the rescue![/card]

Spells (6):
[card]Katamaru[/card] x3
[card]Onijutsu[/card] x3

Items (7):
[card]Nô mask[/card] x2
[card]Zarazam's eye[/card] x3
[card]Wakizashi[/card] x2

This being said, I'm not really a star at deck-building. As a result, this deck doesn't seem to be capable of holding it's own in most battles. I got lots of trouble against many opponents, most notably kotoba warriors, merc warriors and possibly ironically, noz mages.

I would love to hear suggestions as to how I can make this work more. Even if I have to throw half the deck overboard, I really want to get going with some decent demon hunter deck.

ps: Am I doing something wrong with the card tags? Many don't seem to be showing up.

Re : A shot at the demon hunter caste

I see three versions of demonhunters.

raven-hunter hybrid : gan-zo, yu ling, zatochi kage
( yulings heal ) - not tried yet but should be slow too

battlemage : kyoshiro, yu ling, okooni
( multi dmg with RoD ) - works but middle class only

"tank" : Okooni, zatochi kage, yuling/kyoshiro
( many jwel stuff with firon ) - should be damn slow

thereS a good dmg card missing, onijutsu an epic fail,
too many low-spirit humans + too many high-spirit un-humans
( bad thing they changed the cards befor the release, the 1st version of onijutsu n zatoshi were better. )

silent leges inter arma
cicero

I think it's better than you expect , this is the version i'm playing ( are written only the core cards , and you need only the mask as a jewel ) and it's good :

It's in italian but you can see the characters and the artworks of the cards so you can understand the same what cards they are.
Hope this will help you , see ya wink

Re : A shot at the demon hunter caste

Very long post here, I figured I'd add some analysis I made while playing. I'll make a little summary of my post for those who don't want to read through all of it.
@Reycom, I used your type of deck at first, but it didn't really seem to work for me in many cases. Would you please elaborate or translate your post? It might give some insight.

- Yu ling is indeed the most useful character of the demon hunters. The rest, excluding zatochi, have some nasty problems.
- Onijutsu is too situational. It's human part is especially disappointing.
- Nô mask isn't particularly useful, even for okooni since his spirit starts at 0.
- If the demon hunter cards were based on mage/priest and warrior/marauder/craftsman, it would probably work a lot better than with human/non-human. The distinction is too arbitrary gameplay-wise.

Yeah, if I manage to get 1 or 2 [card]Nô mask[/card] on the field, yu ling with order bonus becomes a beast. That combined with [card]integrity[/card] followed by [card]katamaru[/card] is very painful to humans. especially with [card]Zatochi kage[/card] to increase the damage. Sadly, the rest is flawed. Kyoshiro and ryouken are WAY too frail, and okooni has no starting spirit, which makes him mostly useless at the start of a battle.

I've noticed that onijutsu is situational at best. It's a fine addition against low spirit non-humans for the added magic damage, but against many humans I end up discarding it as soon as I get it. +1 or 2 damage just isn't good, it's basically [card]blast[/card] at best unless I played a couple masks. As an added bother, many high spirit characters like archmage Anryena and Prophet are in fact guemelites, so they recieve the magical aspect of onijutsu, which isn't nearly as useful because of their high spirit. The same argument can be made for humans, except the other way around.

Those masks themselves are another problem. Sure they in/decrease opposing spirit with chain for 2 chars, but that by itself simply doesn't help. Zatochi not being human really kills it's use as well, since he won't even benefit from it himself. At this point it's essentially a weaker, card specific karajutsu. Ofcourse it increases spirit+2 for okooni, but since he doesn't have any spirit to begin with, it feels more like a way to compensate than an actual power boost.

I really, really wanted to make them work. The concept seems to be very original, controlling everyone's spirit for damage, as well as the implied advantage against magic users. In practice it's just too random, as there are plenty physical humans as well as magical non-humans, against whom they start out with a clear disadvantage. A way to solve this would be to change it from human/non-human, to spiritual/non-spiritual. Make it mage/priest and warrior/marauder/craftsman, that should make the effects a lot more consistent with the intended use of each character.

I hope I made myself understandable, as I seem to have a problem with that at times.
